This hugely successful  worldwide hit musical  has been with us since 2003,  received numerous awards along the way, & finally arriving north of the border, from London’s West End Theatre, to a flurry of Scottish excitement. The story is based on the novel “Wicked – Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West,’ by author Gregory Maguire, a book inspired by the characters and stories of L Frank Baum ‘The Wonder Wizard of Oz.’ In essence, we all know the story of the Wizard of Oz & this is the prequel, the story of Oz and its inhabitants before the arrival of Dorothy.
Whilst the music might not be familiar to most of our mainstream media consumers, the songs perfectly fitted the storyline and thoroughly entertained an audience who’d made the effort to see something new.  The special effects were quite imaginative and the choreography of the flying monkeys most excellent. All the cast played their parts with a vibrant energy which drew the audience into a magical world for a short time.   A show for all the family, Wicked is well worth seeing. FOUR STARS
